Pipeline gets Tea approval

The town is likely to see a lot more traffic this summer when construction begins on the Dakota Access pipeline.

All Tea landowners have signed easements, and the landscape is already changing in Lincoln County.

Stakes are already in the ground for the 1,148-mile pipeline, which will cross southwest Tea on a 272-mile trek through South Dakota.

“It’s a pretty sizeable project – not on the scale of Mount Rushmore, but certainly bigger than anything we’ve seen before,” said Mike Poppens, Lincoln County commissioner.

Six months after the Lincoln County Commission and the Public Utilities Commission approved passage, Dakota Access LLC has secured signatures from 100 percent of South Dakota landowners to bury the pipeline on their properties.

Several Tea residents have granted easements to the project, which will begin moving 400,000 barrels of crude oil across four states late this year.
