Comprehensive plan provides direction for city

The city adopted an updated comprehensive plan last August to provide a guide to city growth.

City planning and zoning administrator Kevin Nissen noted the last comprehensive plan was compiled in 2009. He worked with Confluence, South Eastern Council of Governments, city staff, HDR Engineering, the school district and Tea Economic Development Corp. to update the plan. They especially worked on updating the demographics, future land use and utilities sections.

The city hosted a public hearing and went through a series of questions with about 50 citizens in person. Then they put the survey online and heard from a total of 373 people who responded to the survey.

From that survey, they gathered information on where they lived, how long they had lived in Tea, what type of business they’d like to see in Tea and the type of housing needed in the city.
