City approves liquor license transfer

The Tea City Council met Oct. 21.

They held a public hearing to transfer a package (off-sale) liquor license from Cubby’s Tea to One Stop Tea LLC at 101 W. 1st St. No one from the public commented on the transfer. The council approved the transfer.

The council discussed the placement of a sign for the Tea Chamber for Development. City administrator Justin Weiland said the council budgeted up to $90,000 for a sign. The proposed sign would have displays on both sides. The original suggestion of where to place the sign was in the median on Gateway Boulevard in the median directly north of the hotel.

After a lengthy discussion that included thinking about unintended consequences in where to place it, they offered a possible alternative that would be across from Olivia’s. The council did not make a final decision on where to place the sign.

The council also discussed the 2025 budget. They talked about the possibility of using the third penny sales tax revenue to replace the main city park equipment. They also talked about budgeting half of the city shop in 2025 and then finish it in 2026 to spread out the expense.

Weiland noted that the mill and overlay project was starting this week, with small drainage projects on James, 1st Avenue and Spencer Lane following the overlays. The project should be complete by the end of November.

The council adjourned at 6:50 p.m.
