City council meets for first time in 2025

The Tea City Council met for the first time in 2025 on Jan. 6.

They held a public hearing for a new retail on-off sale malt beverage and South Dakota farm wine license for One Stop Tea LLC at 101 W. 1st St., Byron Addition, lots 1, 2, 3, block 1 and MX LLC DBA Makers Exchange at 102 Venture Pl., Bakker Landing 1st Addition, lot 7, block 2. No one from the public was present to speak on the license. The council approved the license.

The council also approved the retail on-off sale malt beverage license transfer from G & T Gaming DBA Dakota Players Club, limited to suites A, B & C at 108 Venture Place to MG Oil Company DBA 777 Tea Casino, limited to suites A, B & C at 108 Venture Place.

They approved the community development director job description, the new job description to fill planning and zoning administrator Kevin Nissen’s position. They also approved the job posting.

The council approved resolution 25-01-01, a resolution establishing salaries for 2025. Salaries for city employees include: city administrator Justin Weiland at $163,176 per year, utility superintendent Thad Konrad at $105,851 per year, finance officer Dawn Murphy at $103,168 per year, police chief Jessica Quigley at $108,534.40 per year, planning and zoning administrator Kevin Nissen at $91,145.60, park and rec director Jacob Kerr at $64,937.60 per year, mayor at $1,875 per month and council members at $625 per month.

They approved the pay plan policy and pay matrix, along with employee placement within the matrix.

The council adjourned at 6:09 p.m.
