Helping in a time of need: Tea Community Food Distribution receives grant

Throughout the community there are many organizations who put in countless hours to make Tea, South Dakota a better place to live.

Whether the organization is the local law enforcement who keep a watchful eye out for the citizens, or even the local library who provides a fun safe space for the children to spend an afternoon, all of these local organizations need help to continue to be here for the community.

The Tea Area Community Foundation or TACF is a local group that provides grants to organizations like the ones listed above.

In 2021 TACF awarded nearly $9,000 in grants to help local nonprofit organizations. One of those grant recipients is Tea Community Food Distribution.

The group is based out of Trinity Lutheran Church. The church is located on First Street in Tea. The group utilized the funds from the TACF grant to provide Fareway gift cards and gas gift cards to local families in need, along with the food donations from Feeding South Dakota.

Tea Community Food Distribution also takes donations from the public to help cover the needs of the families they serve. Each month the group serves approximately 90 families. The group hands out the food donations on the third Thursday of every month via a drive through collection on the East side of the church. If anyone is interested in helping, or in need, please contact the group through their Facebook page or by calling the church at 605-498-2343.

The TACF helps organizations who make Tea a better place to live and they too, are helping to improve the community. This is the 16th year that the foundation has awarded grants through its endowment fund to support projects and purchases that benefit and enhance the quality of life for Tea area residents.
