Nielson Construction offers 55-plus development

For people 55 years old and older, a new development in Tea could be the place to buy a new home.

Nielson Construction has been developing a 55-plus community at Nine Mile Creek at Serenity Park on the northeast side of the city. While they have developments in Lennox, Madison, Sioux Falls, Garretson and other parts of Tea, Lexie Ricci, vice president of sales for Nielson Construction, said they wanted to try this type of development.

“We had heard there’s only one other one on the east side of Sioux Falls. We thought there would be a demand for it. Tea has gotten a little bit of an older community with people that come off of farms in surrounding areas,” Ricci said. “We thought this would be a good area to try to promote it and see how it goes and see if we want to do it in future areas.”

The new development features single-family slab on grade homes that come in two models, twinhome slab on grade, triplex slab on grade, twinhomes with basements and single-family with basements. 

The development will also have a community center that will have a pickleball court, inside sitting area, pool table, kitchenette and outside grilling area.

“We are proceeding with that one, but seeing if we could get more room to tie in another area,” she said.

Since the development has an HOA, the yard care, snow removal, trash and recycling are all included.

Nielson Construction hosts open houses every Thursday and Sunday. Visitors can walk through two single-family spec homes. One has two bedrooms with a den and two baths with 1,296 square feet. The other one has three bedrooms and two baths with 1,206 feet.

The ranch home has two bedrooms and two baths with 1,133 square feet. Twinhomes have two bedrooms and two baths with 981 square feet.

Prices ranges from $262,800 to $432,800.

“Feedback’s been great. There is different options for selections. We have move-in ready houses, or we have ones in construction that they could pick or they could start from scratch and customize it themselves,” Ricci said.
