Ribbon cutting held at new show ring building at Lincoln County Fairgrounds

A ribbon cutting was held during Achievement Days on Tuesday, July 30, at the new show ring building at the Lincoln County Fairgrounds. Last week, 4-H Achievement Days took place at the newly-constructed fairgrounds in Lennox, now bustling with livestock from chickens to pigs to sheep. 

These fairgrounds, previously located in Canton, were relocated to Lennox in 2020. The Lincoln County 4-H Extension Office has been operating out of the location at 27711 SD-17, Lennox, SD—formerly known as the Goeman Auction grounds—since February 3, 2020.

The buildings in Canton had significantly deteriorated, with many structural components needing extensive upgrades. Additionally, the previous location lacked adequate parking and space for expansion, prompting the move to the new fairgrounds.

Due to the pandemic and the transition to the new location, the format of Achievement Days had been non-traditional in recent years. For the past two events, there were no barns available, requiring competitors to transport their livestock to the show ring and back home on the same day. This year, however, marked a return to normalcy. Following years of fundraising and construction efforts, the new facilities now provide a comfortable and well-equipped environment for the events. The 4-H projects were housed in an existing building on the new fairgrounds.
