State Bound: Titan softball and baseball teams punch their tickets to State



The Tea Area High School softball team defeated Flandreau, 10-0 on Tuesday, May 23 to punch their ticket to the first State sanctioned softball Tournament on June 1.

On Tuesday, May 23 the Tea Area High School softball team took on Flandreau and after recording three runs in the bottom of third, three runs in the bottom of the fifth and four in the bottom of the six the Tea Area Titans are State bound.

The Titans shut out Flandreau in the 10-0 victory Tuesday.

Addisyn Hansen earned the shut-out win, allowing zero runs while handling her business on the mound. She allowed only one hit over six innings, struck out ten batters and walked zero.

In the sixth inning, Kalli Boom, Skyler Haines, Hansen, and Sydney Ganschow all contributed with RBIs.

The Titans now find themselves headed to Aberdeen to compete in the first ever State A sanctioned softball tournament.

The Titans enter State as the fifth seed and are set to face off against Madison on June 1 at 12:30 p.m. The Titans bring a 10-5 record into State. Madison sits at 15-3 on the season. The winner will advance to face the winner of the Dell Rapids/Lennox game (played at 10 a.m. on June 1) on June 2 at 3 p.m.

The State Championship game will be played June 3 at 5:30 p.m. Teams advancing included #1 Dell Rapids, #2 West Central, #3 Dakota Valley, #4 Madison, #5 Tea Area, #6 Elk Point Jefferson, #7 Beresford, and #8 Lennox.


The Tea Area High School baseball team made history on Tuesday, May 23 defeating Baltic 13-3 to advance to the State Tournament, the first for a Titan high school baseball team.

On Tuesday, May 23 the Tea Area High School baseball team took on MVPCS and grabbed the 17-2 victory.

Things got off to a great start when Logan Boom hit a solo home run int he opening inning — the Titans never looked back.

On the mound, Nathan Babb was credited with the victory, pitching five innings, allowing two runs on seven hits, striking out five and walking zero.

In the game, the Titans collected 11 hits. Boom went 3-for-3 at the plate.

With the win, the Titans advanced to face off against Baltic with the winner punching their ticket to State.

Tea Area scored three runs in the bottom of the first, sixth in the bottom of the third and four more in the bottom of the fifth to grab the decisive 13-3 victory — advancing to the State Tournament for the first time in school history.

In the big third inning, Clayton Schwebach, Sam Werdel, Ethan Vis, Matt Halbur, and Boom all drove in runs in the inning.

Schwebach earned the win on the mound, pitching five innings, allowing three runs on six hits, striking out seven and walking zero.

Werdel, Babb and Schwebach each collected two hits in the game to lead the Titans. Schwebach also had two stolen bases.

The State B Tournament will be held May 29 and 30 at the Sioux Falls Canaries Stadium in Sioux Falls.
