State Champs:Titans claim first ever State B Baseball Title



On Tuesday, May 30 the Tea Area High School baseball team captured the State B Championship Title with a dominating 13-2 victory over Bon Homme/Avon in the Championship game.

The Titans opened the game scoring one run on an error. They scored three runs in the third, two more in the third and broke the game open with five in the top of the fifth. Tea Area sealed the win with an additional two in the seventh.

Logan Boom had an exceptional night at the plate, driving in four runs on two hits. Boom drove in runs on a single in the second and a triple in the fifth. The senior earned MVP honors in the State Tournament.

The big fifth inning for the Titans was fueled by Teagan Dedula, Boom, and Mason Schramm who all recorded RBIs.

On the mound for Tea Area was Boston Willemssen who allowed four hits and two runs over three innings, walking zero. Nate Christensen and Boom entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief. Boom pitched two innings allowing zero hits and zero runs.

He recorded three strike-outs. Christensen pitched two innings, allowing one hit and recorded two strike-outs.

Tea Area tallied 12 hits in the Championship game with Nathan Babb leading the way with three hits in his four at bats.

On their way to the Championship game, the Titans had to get past Dakota Valley in the semi-finals. This game was also played on Tuesday, May 30.

Tea found themselves up 2-0 heading in the sixth inning where the Panthers answered back to score two runs of their own, tying the game.

The Titans won the game in dramatic walk-off fashion, thanks to a walk-off error at the end of the game, allowing them to grab the 3-2 victory.

Clayton Schwebach and Nate Christensen handled pitching duties for Tea Area. Schwebach surrendered two runs on four hits over seven and two-thirds innings and struck out six batters. Christensen allowed zero hits and zero runs over one-third of an inning, walking zero.

The Titans totaled seven hits. Boom, Turek, and Schwebach each collected two hits to lead the Titans.

The Titans began their State run on Monday, May 29. Tea Area faced off against Redfield and had no trouble offensively getting the big 11-1 victory.

Babb was credited with the victory on the mound for the Titans. Babb allowed four hits and one run over six innings, striking out five.

The Titans finished with eight hits in the game. Boom led the Titans with three hits in five at bats. Schramm recorded two stolen bases in the game.
