Titan girls defeat Madison, fall to SF O’Gorman

Three players were in double figures during last Thursday night’s match-up against Madison. Katie Vasecka, Mara Grant, and Ellie Clayberg scored 18, 16, and 15 points respectively in the Tea Area High School girls’ basketball dominating 69-18 win over Madison on Jan. 25.

The Titans were in charge from the beginning, opening the game with a 34-0 first quarter performance. Tea Area continued to roll to earn the victory. 

Vasecka went eight of 16 from the floor to finish with 18 points. She also had four rebounds, five assists and led the team in steals with six. Grant was seven of 11 from the field finishing with 16 points. She grabbed seven rebounds, and had one assist. Clayberg hit three three-pointers in the game en route to a 15 point performance. She also grabbed two rebounds and had two steals. Miah Weber finished the game with nine points, going three of four from three point land. She grabbed two rebounds and had two assists. Natalie Gass finished with five points, three rebounds, and two steals. Anna Binde had four points, one rebound and one steal and Haidyn West finished with two points, two rebounds, three assists and four steals. 

The Titans traveled to Sioux Falls to take on an undefeated Sioux Falls O’Gorman on Tuesday, Jan. 30. 

Tea Area took a narrow 24-23 lead with them into the locker room at halftime, but an 18-9 third quarter advantage by the Knights proved to be the difference as they went on to win 53-45.

In the loss, Grant finished with a double-double on the night, scoring 16 points and pulling down 11 rebounds. She also had two steals. Vasecka also finished with a double-double, scoring 13 points and pulling down 11 rebounds. She had three assists and three steals. West finished with six points and grabbed four points, had one assist and three steals. Clayberg contributed five points and grabbed two rebounds. Binde added four points one rebound and Jaycie Babb had one point in the game. 

Tea Area was scheduled to host Canton on Wednesday, Jan. 31 in a rescheduled game. They will compete in the DakXII/NEC Clash in Madison on Saturday, Feb. 3. Tea Area is scheduled to take on Parkston at 3:30 p.m. 

On Tuesday, Feb. 6 the Titans will host Harrisburg at 7 p.m. and will host Lennox in double-header action on Friday, Feb. 9. The girls are set to tip-off at 6:30 p.m.
