Titan softball team falls to DV, defeats Yankton


The Tea Area High School softball team suffered a tough loss against the Dakota Valley Panthers on Friday, Apr. 14. Despite out-hitting their opponents ten to eight, the Titans lost the lead late in the game and fell 7-4.

The game was tied at three going into the bottom of the sixth inning when the Panthers took the lead. Logan Miller singled on a 0-1 count and scored three runs, giving the Panthers the advantage they needed to secure the win.

The Titans started out strong, taking a five-run lead in the fifth inning. Kalli Boom and Preslie Benning each hit a home run for the Titans, but it wasn’t enough to hold off the Panthers.

Emily Froendt pitched for the Titans and allowed seven runs on eight hits over six innings, striking out four and walking zero.

Boom led the offense with three hits in the game. Jillian Arp had two and Benning also had two. Froendt, Skyler Haines and Emerson Erck each had one hit.

The Titans bounced back with a 13-11 win over Yankton on Monday, Apr. 17.

After the Titans scored three runs in the top of the fifth, Yankton answered with three of their own. The Titans scored when Haines doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run, Benning singled on the first pitch at bat, scoring one run, and Froendt singled on a 2-0 count, scoring one run. Yankton answered when their batter homered on a 0-1 count, scoring three runs.

Tea Area, however, had built a nice lead, scoring six runs in the fourth inning thanks to hits from Arp, Erck, and Emily Froendt. Froendt also hit a home run in the fourth inning.

Froendt pitched a complete game for the Titans, allowing 11 runs on 17 hits, striking out three and walking one.

The Titans had a total of 19 hits in the game, with Froendt, Arp, Haines, and Erck each collecting three hits to lead the team.

The Titans game against Lennox on Friday, Apr. 21 has been postponed. They will travel to Beresford on Monday, Apr. 24 and to Canton on Friday, Apr. 28.
