Titan softball team opens up season with three losses

The Tea Area Titans softball team’s season is underway. The team hosted Sioux Falls Jefferson on Thursday, Apr. 3 and fell 3-15 in the match-up. The game was called after five innings of play. Jefferson went up 7-3 after the first inning and the Titans were unable to get the bats hot. Kaylyn Hall and Morgan Sehr handled pitching duties. Hall pitched two innings, allowing seven hits and 12 runs. Sehr pitched two innings, allowing four hits and three runs. 

Earning hits for the Titans were Kalli Boom and Abby Boom. 

The Titans took on Sioux Falls Lincoln on Friday, Apr. 4 and dropped the match-up 5-15, with the game coming to a close after five innings. Lincoln had a huge fourth inning in which they scored nine runs. Tea Area was able to put three runs on the board in the second inning and two more in the third.

Recording hits were A. Boom, K. Boom, Allie Wallum, Preslie Benning, Sehr, Ava Opland (with two hits) and Piper Benning.

On the mound were Sehr who pitched just over three innings. She allowed 14 runs and 11 hits. Paige Sabers allowed five hits, one run. 

On Tuesday, Apr. 8 the team traveled to Sioux Falls Roosevelt and lost 5-11. The Titans trailed early, falling behind 8-0 heading into the sixth inning. Tea Area put up three runs in the top of the sixth and two more in the top of the seventh but it wasn’t enough to get the win. 

Recording hits for the Titans were K. Boom with two, Preslie Benning, Opland, and Hall with one apiece. 

Sehr and Hall were on the mound for the Titans. Sehr pitched three innings, allowing six hits and seven runs. She recorded one strike-out. Hall pitched three innings, allowing seven hits and four runs. She recorded two strike-outs. 

The team was scheduled to host Sioux Falls Washington on Thursday, Apr. 10 in a 4 p.m. match-up. They will travel to Sioux Falls to take on O’Gorman on Tuesday, Apr. 15 and will be at home on Apr. 17, taking on Brandon Valley at 4 p.m.
