Titan wrestlers set records at Dakota XII Conference Meet

This past Saturday, Jan. 22 the Tea Area High School wrestling team competed in the Dakota XII Conference Meet in Canton.

The Titans saw numerous wrestlers find success on the mat.

Earning Conference Championship titles were Maddix Slykhuis at 120 pounds, Connor Eimers at 145 pounds and Brianna Johnson at 190 pounds, girls division.

En route to his Championship title, Slykhuis extended his win streak to 23, which marks the second-longest streak in school history. He also recorded his sixth win by technical fall on the year, which breaks the school record he previously shared with Connor Eimers (5). This puts him at 11 for his career, which surpasses the previous school record of 10.

Earning runner-up honors at the Conference Meet were Tyler Woodring at 106 pounds, Jackson Tschetter at 113 pounds, Wyatt Stuntebeck at 128 pounds, Sam Werdel at 152 pounds, Gavin Van Emmerik at 170 pounds and Griffen Schnider at 220 pounds.

Also reaching the podium at the Conference Meet were Hunter Wilson who took fourth at 126 pounds; Fyrst Henriksen who took third at 132 pounds; Isaac Johnson who took fourth at 182 pounds, and Nike Rosas who took third at 285 pounds.

The Titans had the lead as a team going into the finals, but Canton bested them in the end. Canton won the Tournament with 232 team points. Tea Area was a close second with 215.5 team points. This marks a school record for most team points in a single tournament.
