Titans fall to Watertown 25-0, host Yankton this Friday

The Tea Area High School football team traveled to Watertown on Friday, Oct. 11, where they fell to 4-3 after a 25-0 defeat. Watertown jumped out to an early lead, scoring twice in the opening quarter to take a 12-0 advantage into halftime. Titans’ player Sam Werdel made a key play, blocking the extra point attempt following Watertown’s first touchdown.

In the fourth quarter, Tea Area’s quarterback Daschle Lowery threw an interception that was returned for a touchdown, extending Watertown’s lead to 18-0. Watertown added another score later in the quarter, pushing the final tally to 25-0.

Despite the loss, the Titans totaled 230 yards of offense, including 171 yards through the air and 59 yards on the ground. Watertown finished with 217 total yards, with 117 rushing and 100 passing.

For Tea Area, Lowery completed 12 of 24 pass attempts for 171 yards, though he also threw three interceptions. On the receiving end, Dawson Eimers led with four catches for 73 yards. Other key contributors included Tyler Rhead (three catches for 33 yards), Grifin Wiebenga (one for 27 yards), Kade Korleski (one for 15), Caleb Kuhnert (one for 10), Carter Brown (one for eight), and Marshall Smythe (one for five).

On the ground, Cole McKinney rushed four times for 16 yards, while Eimers and Werdel each had five and one carries, respectively, both totaling 16 yards. Korleski added three carries for eight yards.

Defensively, the Titans put up a strong effort. Hayden Bialas recorded two sacks, Caleb Kuhnert and Brady Tapia each added one. Kuhnert led the team with seven tackles, followed by Bialas with six and Eimers with four.

The Titans will look to bounce back when they host Yankton on Friday, Oct. 18, at 6:35 p.m. Yankton enters the game with a 5-2 record.
