Titans shine at Titans Relays

The Tea Area High School track and field athletes held their first home meet of the season, the Titan Relays, last Tuesday, Apr. 15. The Titans saw several athletes record personal bests and set some new meet records in the process.
The boys’ 4x100 meter relay team of Carter Christensen, Kayden Williamson, Juv Banza and Tyler Rhead captured first place honors in the event with a time of 44.07 seconds. This mark places them tenth in Class AA.
The girls’ 4x400 meter relay also saw success for the Titans with the team, consisting of Lainey Haines, Brooklyn Reiners, Mya Neuhardt, and Jayna VanLaecken earning first and setting a new meet record with their time of 4:05.31.
The boys’ 4x200 meter relay team of Christensen, Matthew Rogers, Rhead, and Banza claimed second place honors in the 4x200 meter relay with a time of 1:33.50.
The girls’ 4x100 meter relay team of Miah Thorstenson, Alayna Mann, Nola Terveen, and Haines took third place honors with their time of 53.53.
The boys’ 4x400 meter relay team of Hayden Hostetler, Quentin Maag, Lane Sieber, and Tate VanLaecken took fourth with a time of 3:49.16.
Individual highlights at the Titan Relays included a first-place finish by Rogers in the 110 meter hurdles. Rogers clocked a time of 15.40 seconds to win the event and now stands #3 in Class AA this season.
In the 100 meter dash, Rhead claimed second place honors with a time of 11.39. Banza took third (11.44), Rogers fourth (11.54), Beckett Martens sixth (11.74), Brandon Wipf seventh (11.77), and Kayden Williamson eighth (11.79). Also competing for the Titans were Dawood Toto, Landen Bolte, Morisa Wasesa, Rylen Burch, Jeremy Wiens, Kadin Zolnowsky, Brayden Gniffke, Santiago Revolorio, Victor Bruggeman, and Filip Toth.
In the boys’ 200 meter dash, Rhead took second place honors with a time of 23.19. Christensen took third with a time of 23.39, Wipf sixth (23.75), Chase Deboer seventh (24.10) and Rogers ninth (24.30). Hayden Bialas, Williamson, Landen Bolte, Jacob Mueller, Toto, Revolorio, Burch, Zolnowsky, and Bruggeman also competed.
In the boys’ 400 meter, Mueller claimed runner-up honors with a time of 52.51 seconds. Jack Campbell took sixth (54.08) and Deboer finished eighth (55.51). Sieber, Jeremiah Waldner, and Bruggeman also competed. Mueller also placed in the top eight in the 800 meter run, taking sixth with a time of 2:07.68. Campbell took seventh in the event (2:10.89).
In the boys’ 1600 meter run, Reid Hammerquist took fifth with a time of 4:51.98. VanLaecken took ninth (5:07.08). Jacob DeYoung, Kaden Christian, Arden McGraw, Noah Korver, and Dawson Lowery also competed.
In the boys’ 3200 meter run, Hammerquist finished fifth with a time of 10:48.65. Lowery took seventh (11:47.64).
For the Titan girls, Sydney Stahlecker took second place in the 400 meter with a time of 58.91. VanLaecken took third in the event with a time of 59.30, Logan Castle sixth (1:04.48) and Remington Bechard seventh (1:07.51).
Grace Bialas earned runner-up honors in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:25.50 in the event. Abby Hilleson took third (2:29.17), and Kiley Pendergast seventh (2:41.96). Taylor Boehnke and Abuol Deng also competed. Bialas claimed third in the girls’ 1600 meter run with a time of 5:32.56. Taylor Boehnke took eighth (6:12.74) and Meredith Decker ninth (6:20.41).
Another runner-up finish was earned by Jaycie Babb who took second in the 3200 meter run. She clocked a time of 11:16.78 in the event. Gracie Kramer took seventh (16:02.83).
In the girls’ discus throw, Sienna Brech took second place with her throw of 116’8”. Savannah Stahnke took seventh (94’6”) and Jayden Leegaard ninth (81’10”). Also competing were Gabby Overwise, Kassidy Wranek, Remington Jacobson, and Emmalee Hindberg.
In field events for the boys, Tyson DeYoung took fifth in the discus with a throw of 126’7”. Thiik Lual finished seventh (112’1”). Brenner Konrad took sixth in the javelin throw with a throw of 129’4”. Carter Brown took eighth (118’).
In the boys’ long jump, Toto took third with a jump of 18’5”. Broderson took sixth with a jump of 17’3”.
Wiens took fourth in the boys’ pole vault, clearing 12’. Carson Hall claimed fifth (12’) and Sam Bullis ninth (10’6”).
In the boys’ shot put, Konrad took fifth with a throw of 42’10.5”. Cody Peterson took eighth with a throw of 40’8”. Lual took ninth (40’6”) and DeYoung tenth (40’.5”).
In the boys’ triple jump, Hayden Bialas took sixth, jumping 35’9”. Broderson took eighth (34’7.5”) and Maag ninth (34’7”).
In the girls’ 100 meter dash, Neuhardt took sixth place with a time of 13.62. Nola Terveen took ninth (14.10) and Thorstenson finished with a time of 14.79. In the 200 meter dash, Neuhardt took fifth with a time of 27.45. Haines took eighth (28.4) and Thorstenson 13th (30.47).
In the girls’ 100 meter hurdles, Reiners took fourth with a time of 16.62. VanLaecken sixth (17.04), Maan seventh (17.23), Hilleson eighth (17.92) and Pendergast 11th (21.79). In the 300 meter hurdles, Reiners claimed fourth place with a time of 49.55.
Also for the girls, in field events, Reese Hammerquist took fifth for the girls’ high jump, clearing 4’6”. Logan Castle took seventh (4’6”). and M. Decker tenth (4’4”).
In the girls’ javelin throw, Daphne Decker took third with a throw of 100’. Pendergast took eighth (74’7”), Gabby Overwise ninth (71’), M. Decker tenth (70’) and Brech 11th (67’7”).
Bechard took eighth in the long jump, jumping a distance of 13’9”. D. Decker finished fifth in the pole vault, clearing 9’. Leegaard took fifth in the shot put with a throw of 32’9” and Hammerquist finished third in the triple jump, jumping 32’3.5”. Catelyn Giles took eighth in the event with a jump of 28’2”.
The Titans will be back in action this Thursday, Apr. 24, when they host their second meet of the season, beginning at 3:30 p.m.
