Unique boutique to offer women’s, kids clothing, piano lessons in new space in Tea
A small business in Tea is celebrating its second anniversary and grand reopening in its second location.
Bella & Birch now offers baby, children’s and women’s clothing at a new location along 900 N. Main Ave.
Unique to its brand, Bella & Birch offers piano lessons as well.
Liz Carrell opened the boutique online in 2019 as a part-time venture. In the spring of 2022, she went full time with the boutique, opening her first brick-and-mortar store in Tea.
With a shared passion for playing piano, she and her mom started offering lessons.
“My mom, Mary, is completely blind,” Carrell said.
Carrell’s mom went to school for music and has been playing and performing for many years.
“This has been a safe space for her to dive deep and excel, which is why music has been so much a part of our lives,” she explained. “It’s something we can do together.”
Adding piano lessons to Bella & Birch just happened by chance, she said.
When Carrell was gifted a piano, she opted to put it into her old store.
“We had the piano in our spare room, got it tuned up and started to offer piano lessons,” she said. “We started with four to six students and immediately filled up our open spaces as we continued to offer more with the demand.”
She plans to open 12 more lesson times this fall and will prioritize those lessons by hiring more staff to help with the boutique.
“We wanted to be affordable, and we wanted to be in Tea for families in our community,” she said. “I wanted to invest in the community that we’re a part of.”
She said the boutique’s new space near the Tea city park will better serve customers with a larger, more convenient location, space for storage and piano lessons and room for siblings to play during piano lessons.
Carrell also specializes in custom apparel, including custom designs and graphic tees, which is something she has enjoyed.
“Our new storefront gives us more to grow into,” Carrell said. “It is very exciting.”
A ribbon-cutting was held at the Bella & Birch grand reopening with the Tea Chamber for Development on Friday, July 12.
